Baba Gbenro’s last words to me before hospitalisation – Mike Bamiloye
Nigerian gospel film director Mike Bamiloye has penned an emotional tribute to the late actor Moses Korede Are, widely known as “Baba Gbenro,” following his passing.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Thursday, Bamiloye, the founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, shared what would be Baba Gbenro’s final conversation with him before the actor was hospitalized.
Recalling the moment, Bamiloye wrote, “When he was being taken to the hospital and we spoke on the phone, he said: ‘Please, greet my friend for me. Please, Daddy, I will be fine. Don’t let this stop you from inviting me to film locations.’”
Reflecting on Korede Are’s unwavering commitment to gospel drama, Bamiloye said, “Dr. Korede Are has gone home to rest. Our true employer in this vineyard is Jesus Christ, and only He knows when our workday is over.”
Bamiloye also revealed that Korede Are had been working on the sets of *Abejoye* Season 8 and *Abattoir* 5 before his health worsened. “We were on location for *Abejoye* season 8, not knowing he was nearing the end of his assignment. He was on the set of *Abattoir* 5, and we had no idea his work was almost done.”
He went on to emphasize the life lesson in his friend’s passing, stating, “The question for us all is: When will the Master call you home and say, ‘IT IS CLOSING TIME.’”
Describing the actor’s death as “Heaven’s gain,” Bamiloye wrote, “He passed away here and woke up there in eternity.”
Moses Korede Are, who became beloved for his role as Baba Gbenro in *Abattoir*, is remembered as a devoted servant of God. According to Bamiloye, the actor is now at peace, “resting from countless movie shoots and script readings.”
The news of Korede Are’s death was shared by his colleague, Oluwaseun Adejumobi, on Thursday via Instagram.
