Christian Council of Nigeria decries abuse against women, children

The Women’s Wing of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, has expressed deep concern over the persistent violence against women and children in the country.

During a rally in Ilorin on Tuesday, the wing’s chairperson, Elizabeth Bola Asa, voiced her strong opposition to acts such as rape, child defilement, and domestic abuse. She emphasized that women are not slaves and should be treated with dignity as valuable contributors to national development.

Asa stressed that women are capable of holding significant political offices, including state and national assembly positions, governorship, or even the presidency. She called for an end to the molestation of girls and women, demanding equal rights and justice for victims of rape and violence.

She urged the government to arrest, prosecute, and appropriately punish offenders, regardless of their social status. Asa condemned the culture of impunity that allows perpetrators to go unpunished, asserting, “We are not drums to be beaten at will. The maltreatment of girls and women must stop.”
