Gospel musician, Big Bolaji, dies at 50
The family of Bolaji Olarewaju, popularly known in gospel music circles as Big Bolaji, has officially confirmed his passing after a brief illness.
In a heartfelt statement, the family announced that Bolaji passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025—Easter Saturday. He was remembered as a devoted father, husband, brother, ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and a respected figure in the gospel music industry.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju, lovingly known as ‘Big B,’” the statement read. “He was a treasured father, husband, brother, and a revered pastor in RCCG, as well as a towering presence in gospel music and the wider community. Bolaji departed this life on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a brief illness.”
The family expressed their profound sense of loss, highlighting the immense impact of Bolaji’s music, ministry, and generous heart.
“Bolaji’s life was a reflection of his deep love for music, unwavering faith, and commitment to lifting others. His legacy lives on in the powerful songs he created and the countless lives he touched with joy and inspiration,” the statement continued.
They added that their comfort lies in the belief that while he is no longer physically present, he is now with the Lord.
“As we come to terms with this loss, we ask for privacy during this time of mourning. We are incredibly thankful for the love and support received so far and ask that you continue to uphold us in your prayers,” the family concluded.
Funeral arrangements will be shared at a later date.
Bolaji was well known for his annual gospel concert, “Turn It Up With Big Bolaji,” held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Beyond music, he was also a certified estate surveyor. Though originally from Osun State, he spent his formative years in Ibadan.
