Gunmen invade church, shoot prophet dead during service in Ogun state

A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday when gunmen attacked a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing a 54-year-old prophet, Yomi Adetula, during a church service.

According to reports, three assailants stormed the CCC Eagle Parish on Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko, around 10:30 am, specifically targeting the prophet in a brutal assault that left worshippers in shock and terror.

Eyewitnesses stated that the gunmen shot Adetula and then brutally mutilated his head with an axe to ensure he was dead.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, provided harrowing details in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon.

“Police officers arrived at the scene and found Yomi Adetula, ‘M’, aged 54, lying lifeless in a pool of blood, staining his white celestial garment,” Odutola said.

“Upon close inspection, his body was riddled with bullets, and his head was mangled with an axe to ensure his death.

“Further inquiries revealed that three men entered the church, brought out a long double-barrel gun, aimed at their target, and fired a shot that took the deceased down,” she added.

The prophet’s body has been taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro as the police commence an investigation into the killing.

Odutola disclosed that the suspects fled towards the border area after the attack.

“Normalcy has been restored, and further details will be uncovered in the coming days as the investigation progresses,” she assured.
