How prayers saved Nigeria – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has emphasized that Nigeria’s situation would be far worse without the power of prayer.

Speaking on Sunday during RCCG’s monthly thanksgiving and special prayer service for security agencies at the church headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Pastor Adeboye noted that the continuous prayers of committed believers have kept the nation from collapsing under its many challenges.

“Some people ask, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting, so where are the results?’ I simply laugh. If we hadn’t been praying, the state of Nigeria would be much more dire. We must not stop,” he said.

Delivering a message titled “Shadow of the Almighty,” the 82-year-old cleric highlighted God’s spiritual protection over the RCCG, describing it as real and undeniable. He shared testimonies of divine preservation, such as an RCCG house fellowship center in the U.S. that remained untouched during a flood that destroyed 14 other surrounding buildings.

He also referenced the fire outbreak at Otedola Bridge in Lagos earlier in March, where flames consumed nearby structures but mysteriously spared an RCCG building.

“The buildings before and after were destroyed, but the RCCG building remained. That’s not by chance—it’s divine protection,” he said.

Pastor Adeboye reaffirmed that God still governs human affairs and warned that if intercessors stopped praying, the nation would immediately feel the consequences.

“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those who pray were to stop even for a week, the result would be terrifying. Keep praying—God is the one who controls the hearts of rulers,” he urged.

He concluded by reminding the congregation that true security is found in God alone, not in human systems or weapons.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Folu Adeboye led prayers for peace in Nigeria, asking God to show mercy to the country’s leaders.

“Let us pray for our president, that God will grant him mercy and peace, so that he may find fulfillment in his time in office,” she said.

The service ended with special recognition for members of Nigeria’s security and paramilitary agencies, reaffirming RCCG’s commitment to continuous spiritual support for the nation.
