I almost died seven years ago, Pastor Adeboye recounts near-death experience

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has shared a harrowing experience from seven years ago when he nearly lost his life during an evangelism program due to poor road conditions.

Speaking at the annual Special Holy Ghost Service themed “Joy Unspeakable” on Friday, Adeboye recounted how his health deteriorated so severely that, for the first time ever, he was forced to spend Christmas Day bedridden.

He recalled falling ill in Ilesa, Osun State, and being too weak to travel by road. As a result, a helicopter was chartered to transport him to the RCCG camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. However, miscreants attempted to prevent the aircraft from taking off, even damaging one of its windows in the process.

“Seven years ago, during this same program, my body completely broke down due to the terrible road conditions. For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed,” he said.

“The devil was convinced he had finally defeated me. I collapsed in Ilesa, and to get me back to the camp, we had to charter a helicopter. I was too weak to endure a road trip—had I attempted it, I wouldn’t have survived.

“They clung to the helicopter, and in the process, one of the windows was broken. But by God’s grace, I made it to the camp. I was certain that if I could just reach the camp, I would recover.

“Seven years later, I am still here! I want you to join me in thanking God for sparing my life. Please, praise Him on my behalf—give Him all the glory, honor, and adoration!”
