I channelled the pain – Dunsin Oyekan on coping six years after wife’s death
Nigerian gospel singer Dunsin Oyekan has opened up about his emotional journey through grief and spiritual healing, six years after the passing of his beloved wife, Adedoyin Oyekan.
Adedoyin passed away on May 18, 2019. Although the family has chosen to keep the circumstances of her death private, her loss deeply affected Dunsin and their two children.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the gospel artist shared how he has coped with the pain by seeking refuge in God’s presence.
“Many wondered how I made it through. I didn’t suppress the pain—I redirected it,” he wrote. “I found closure in God’s presence, gained perspective from Him, accepted His sovereignty, and discovered joy in His presence!”
He added, “This is the path of life… Six years later, with tears of joy, my testimony remains: GOD IS GOOD!”
Dunsin and Adedoyin were married in February 2013 and had two children together before her untimely passing.
A gifted musician from a young age, Oyekan began singing and playing the guitar at just 10 years old. His career includes more than thirty released songs and a role as former music director of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) choir.
Among his notable works are albums such as Kingdom Now (2019), The Gospel of the Kingdom (2021), The Glory Experience (2022), and his most recent release, The Great Commission (2024).
