Intervene In Leadership Tussle In North, Christian Media Forum Begs CAN
The Christian Media Forum (CMF) has called on the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, to mediate in the ongoing leadership dispute concerning the chairmanship of the 19 northern states.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Andrew Ibrahim Mshelia, and released in Kaduna on Monday, CMF urged the opposing factions to put aside their differences and embrace peace.
“We appeal to all parties involved to lay down their arms and prioritize unity. The Christian community should exemplify hope, love, and harmony, rather than discord and division,” the statement read.
CMF emphasized its deep concern and sense of responsibility in fostering peace within the Christian community.
“As an association of Christian media professionals, we are troubled by this prolonged leadership struggle, which has not only brought embarrassment to CAN but also to the Christian faith. This crisis has persisted for too long and has significantly harmed the Church’s reputation,” the group stated.
The forum further noted that the dispute over leadership in the 19 northern states has remained unresolved, with Rev. Joseph Hayab and Rev. Yakubu Pam both asserting their legitimacy as leaders of the Christian body.
“This conflict has led to confusion, division, and distress within the Christian community. We sincerely hope that Archbishop Okoh’s intervention will bring a resolution to this matter,” the statement concluded.
