King Frederik and Queen Mary are set for a heartwarming reunion with their eldest son, Crown Prince Christian, this Christmas. The 19-year-old royal, currently on a gap year in East Africa, will return home in December to celebrate the holidays with his family, according to GB News.
Crown Prince Christian, who left Denmark on September 4 to spend his gap year managing daily operations at two farms in East Africa, marked his 19th birthday on October 15 while abroad. To commemorate the occasion, the Danish palace shared a social media post featuring a smiling Christian against the backdrop of a picturesque sunset and river. The caption read:
“His Royal Highness the Crown Prince turns 19 today. The Crown Prince is currently staying in East Africa and is therefore celebrating the day under warmer skies.”
This holiday season will be particularly special for King Frederik and Queen Mary as it marks their first Christmas as Denmark’s reigning monarchs. King Frederik ascended to the throne earlier this year following Queen Margrethe’s unexpected abdication. The royal family plans to gather for the festivities at Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus, Jutland, surrounded by their loved ones.
In addition to Crown Prince Christian, the King and Queen are proud parents to Princess Isabella, 17, and 13-year-old twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. Looking ahead, the Crown Prince is expected to undertake military training as part of his preparation for future royal duties.
