Nigerian Diocesan Priests Warn Against Artificial Intelligence’s “Potential to Separate Us from One Another”

The Nigeria Catholic Diocesan Priests’ Association (NCDPA), during their 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held from October 21-25 in Asaba, acknowledged both the advantages and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI). While recognizing AI’s benefits in areas like aiding the disabled and design, they warned that it could negatively impact human relationships and communication. The priests emphasized the importance of balancing AI’s capabilities with the need to foster human connection and urged caution against losing sight of faith amidst technological advances.

They highlighted the potential of AI in evangelization and religious education but stressed that it should be used in ways that respect God’s supremacy. Clergy members active on social media were encouraged to prioritize their roles as spiritual leaders rather than social influencers and to uphold the dignity and privacy of individuals in digital content creation.
