No matter how much I earn, 10% belongs to God – Ighalo

Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to tithing, stating that he will always give 10% of his earnings to God, regardless of how much he makes.

Speaking on the Rash4Christ Podcast, hosted by Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade, Ighalo shared how he first learned about tithing in 2005 while playing for Julius Berger. At just 16 years old, he earned ₦15,000 and was introduced to the practice by his pastor.

“I started paying tithe in 2005, and to this day, I have never missed it,” Ighalo revealed.

However, the former Manchester United forward admitted that he faced a moment of doubt when his earnings skyrocketed after moving to China.

“The devil tried to play with my mind when I saw how much 10% of my salary was. At the end of the month, I hesitated and didn’t send the money immediately,” he recounted.

Seeking clarity, Ighalo turned to prayer, and he felt God’s response was clear: stay true to what had always worked.

“God told me, ‘Don’t change the winning formula. If you can be faithful with little, you’ll be faithful with much.’ So, no matter how much I earn, 10% belongs to God,” he affirmed.

Addressing critics who question his decision, Ighalo emphasized that his giving is based on faith, not public opinion.

“Some people say I’m just giving money to the pastor, but that’s not my concern. I follow God’s word, not people’s opinions,” he concluded.
