Pastor Tunde Bakare Calls for Value Revolution, Declares Nigeria System ‘Designed to Fail
Nigerian cleric and former presidential aspirant, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has asserted that Nigeria is not merely a broken nation, but one deliberately structured to fail. Speaking during a sermon on Sunday at The Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Bakare called for a “revolution of values” to address the root causes of the country’s dysfunction.
“The system isn’t broken—it was intentionally designed to fail its people,” Bakare declared. “Cosmetic reforms won’t suffice. What Nigeria truly needs is a complete overhaul—an awakening of our national conscience.”
In a message titled A Disgrace to Grace, the outspoken pastor condemned the political culture that rewards criminal behavior while sidelining people of integrity. He lamented a country led by those who lack justice and righteousness, warning that a nation that celebrates looters and punishes truth-tellers is on the path to ruin.
Bakare clarified that he was not advocating violence, but rather a “revolution of conscience”—a fundamental shift from corrupt, self-centered politics to a leadership model rooted in righteousness, competence, and vision.
He also criticized the Nigerian Church for abandoning its prophetic role in pursuit of political favor. “How can we claim to represent Christ and yet remain silent in the face of evil?” he questioned. “The Church must be at the forefront of this value revolution.”
Emphasizing the urgency for a moral and ethical rebirth anchored in justice and equity, Bakare insisted that structural or constitutional reforms would be ineffective without a transformation of values.
“The time is now. The old order must be dismantled. We cannot build a great nation on lies, greed, and oppression. The soul of Nigeria is at stake,” he concluded.
