Pastor Tunde Bakare Gives Solar Power to UNILAG Faculty on 70th Birthday

The University of Lagos Faculty of Law honored Pastor Tunde Bakare’s 70th birthday in grand style on November 12, 2024. The event, themed “Let There Be Light,” featured the unveiling of a 6kVA solar power system, a generous donation from Pastor Bakare to his alma mater, symbolizing his commitment to education and sustainability.

This thoughtful contribution highlights Pastor Bakare’s dedication to giving back to the institution that played a pivotal role in his successful career. Held at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall, the ceremony brought together prominent figures from the legal, political, and academic sectors, alongside university staff and students.

According to the UNILAG website, distinguished guests included Justice Kazeem Alogba, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, Mr. Tonye Cole, and Mrs. Folashade Alli. Esteemed alumni like Professor Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, and Mrs. Titilayo Akinlawon, SAN, were also in attendance.

The event also showcased cultural performances by students from the Faculty of Law, who recited poems in honor of Pastor Bakare’s generosity and leadership. These tributes reflected the deep respect and admiration he commands from the next generation of legal professionals.

In her welcome address, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa expressed the university’s profound gratitude for the solar power project, stressing its importance given the rising costs of electricity and public utilities faced by institutions like UNILAG.

The ceremony, chaired by former Vice-Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, celebrated both Pastor Bakare’s personal milestones and his continued support for the university. Professor Ogundipe emphasized the importance of alumni giving back and highlighted the role of philanthropy in advancing education.

Pastor Bakare had marked his 70th birthday a day earlier, on November 11, with a special thanksgiving service at his Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos. The event drew notable dignitaries, including several governors, former governors, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi. President Bola Tinubu also extended birthday wishes, praising Bakare as a significant voice of the Nigerian people.
