Pastor Wale Adefarasin Questions U.S. Sudden Concern For Christians In Nigeria

Senior Pastor of Guiding Light Assembly, Wale Adefarasin, has expressed skepticism over the United States government’s sudden show of concern for Christians in Nigeria, calling the newfound attention “curious” in light of the nation’s long history of religious violence.

Speaking during a recent church service in Lagos, Adefarasin noted that attacks on Christians, particularly in northern Nigeria, have persisted for decades without drawing such heightened interest from the international community.

“For the 40 years I’ve been a Christian, there have been killings in southern Kaduna, violence on the Plateau, and recurring riots,” he said. “At one point, I think it was in France that an image of Prophet Muhammad was defaced — and as a result, Christians were killed here in Nigeria.”

He emphasized that while these attacks are real and should be condemned, they are not new phenomena and should not be portrayed as a recent or organized attempt to exterminate Christians.

“It’s not new, and it doesn’t amount to genocide,” Adefarasin stated. “The way the West describes it, you’d think a Christian can’t step outside without being killed.”

Questioning the motives behind the renewed Western concern, he added, “I’m trying to understand this sudden love for Christians. Is it because Nigeria now hosts one of the world’s largest refineries and no longer exports crude for refining abroad? Or is it due to the newly discovered 21st-century minerals in our soil — the ones essential for nuclear energy and electric vehicles?”
