RCCG’s Pastor Adeboye Speaks on TikToker Sea King’s Arrest
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has addressed the arrest of rising TikTok personality Olumide ‘Sea King’ Ogunsanwo.
Nigerian police in Lagos re-arrested Sea King when he appeared in court for a separate trial. His latest arrest is linked to allegations of cyberbullying Pastor Adeboye following the cleric’s remarks about the church’s 100-day fast.
During the February Holy Ghost Service at the auditorium in Simawa, Ogun State, the 82-year-old cleric clarified that he did not authorize Sea King’s arrest.
Adeboye reminded his congregation of God’s prophecy that mockers would become louder and more aggressive this year.
He said:
“At the beginning of the year, God told us that mockers would become more active and bold. I heard there is someone who thoroughly criticized me. What was my offence? Because I told my people to fast for 100 days? I did not ask just anyone to fast, only my children (church members).”
“Some people got so angry that they went ahead and arrested him. Please, release him. He is only fulfilling the prophecy. For my children, there is glory ahead.”
Background
Sea King was initially arrested in December 2024 for allegedly insulting President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in widely circulated social media videos.
While facing charges of treason, cyberstalking, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, he was re-arrested in court.
His lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, confirmed the development on his verified X handle, revealing that Sea King was taken to Murtala Muhammed Airport and flown to Abuja. Effiong urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene, describing the re-arrest as a blatant abuse of due process. He also demanded his client’s immediate release.
Similarly, rights activist Omoyele Sowore condemned the police action, linking it to Sea King’s recent social media post about police corruption. Sowore, a former presidential candidate, called on authorities to stop harassing Nigerians with cybercrime allegations and release the TikToker without delay.
